04. FAID PASS, 01/30/1943
"Commander, you have arrived not a moment too soon.

Combined French and US forces have advanced into Southern Tunisia. The main geographical features are the Western Dorsal Range and, further towards the coast, the Eastern Dorsal Range - the Eastern Dorsal is now our front line. French forces recently have been brought forward to hold the passes of the Eastern Dorsal while our own units have been held in reserve further to the west in the Kasserine Pass area.

The Germans have launched an offensive to drive the French off their Eastern Dorsal positions, only this morning they advanced through the Faid Pass and have surrounded French units in the area.

Unfortunately, your predecessor has launched an ill-timed offensive of his own to assault German and Italian positions in the south of the line, around Station de Sened and Maknassy - this assault is not serving any purpose and is tying up valuable units needed further north. You have been given command of the front. Stabilize positions in the south and relieve the French around Faid.

The Germans are tough veterans so you will have to prove your claim that your men are their equal. The French will not accept a British commander and you are my only experienced American General - we need you to help keep the Allies allied."
