Dear PG2 player, this is my eighth campaign, and this time I have chosen Romania to be the player's country. Why? Because at the time I began, there was no Romanian campaign yet! :-) So now there are two, and I cannot claim to have the best!! :-)

This campaign is all I could think of to quickly create a Romanian campaign. It consists of nine scenarios, longest road to go is eight. It's all one way until Chir, where a victory of any kind will get you further east (and win the war the Endsieg way) while a loss will take you to the defence of your capital (which is possible to win, even if it doesn't look like it).

Installation:
Copy all files into your PG2 scneario folder (not userscen).

Requires:
Waffenkammer Upgrade Version 4.01 or higher (www.waffenkammer.com)
Sealion map
Astrakahan map
Berlin map
Sevastopol map (for maps look up Builder's Paradise)

Optional extras:
My new .smk video sequences. The campaign uses a number of them (fas3, fas13, fas15).

Comments:
Here is a brief run-through of the campaign. Scenario by scenario is below, first a few general remarks.
This campaign is by no means supposed to be absolutely historically accurate. It is supposed to simulate what the war might have looked like for the Romanian army. The scenarios are supposed to be realistic, but not historically accurate. The only scenario that might make that claim is the new Sevastopol scenario (a modified version of Lasse Jensen's), but even I'm not all too happy with it yet. You will face numerous difficulties. One of them is equipment. Your artillery is hopeless from the start, underranged and undercalibred. Your planes are okay until about the middle of the war, after that they must rely on better experience to see them through. Your AT is good, one of your strongest points. Your tanks are ok until the middle of the war. Unfortunately you will never get to upgrade them to something better than the R-2, so you will be fighting for your capital (if you have such luck) with completely outdated R-2s against IS-2s!!! Good luck! :-) Your AD is hopeless also, your infantry below average but will probably be one of your best weapons. Your recon is good thanks to well-armed R-1 recon tanks. These tanks will be useful for infiltration of the enemy's lines and destruction of his artillery. But it's impossible to build an army around recon only.
In general, follow Guderian's guidelines and you'll be okay! :-) Another tip: When starting a scenario, always look around for more deployment areas. There may be some in better places than the ones you see first!

Scenario 1 (Chernovsty)
A relatively simple affair. Your enemy is strong, but his forces are concentrated somewhat in the far west. Build up your Schwerpunkt (okay, you're not a German, but you'll have to pretend throughout the campaign that you are). If you hit the enemy with your fist and not with fingers apart you will win easily. You may have to adopt a defensive stance at first.

Scenario 2 (Ploesti)
A training mission. Despite a briefing that makes it sound as if you're facing an entire Panzer Army, your opponent is merely the 23rd Panzerdivision. Actually pretty easy. You have to concentrate your artillery on one target to achieve something.

Scenario 3 (Kishinev)
A bit more difficult than one might expect. The reason is that it's the original scenario, and previously it was in the middle of a campaign and not scenario number 3. The same principle as at Chernovsty applies. My advice is to concentrate all your core forces in the north and advance slowly everywhere else - always under cover of your artillery. I lost this scenario once.

Scenario 4 (Odessa, Sealion map)
A rest after your tough job at Kishinev? You might hope so. No, sorry. This one is every bit as hard. You have several auxilliary divisions in the east, but they are facing an equal number of Soviet divisions and can only overcome them if you divert some units from your main force. Unfortunately your objectives are nowhere in that area, so all your aux units can do is tie down enemy forces.
Advance quickly, if you can. The enemy has a BR-17 (supposed to represent coastal batteries in Odessa) in the city. After you take Odessa, the rest is easy.

Scenario 5 (Nikolayev)
This one is at last your promised rest. A straightforward mission, easily won. You see Katyushas for the first time.

Scenario 6 (Sevastopol, Sevastopol map)
Basically Lasse Jensen's original scenario modified by me so it more accurately resembles the real battle for Sevastopol. You will think it's easy going until you approach the city itself. Then you will most likely get bogged down. Blast your way through somehow with artillery, planes and engineers the way the Germans did it in real life (with the Romanians guarding the coast and fighting in the mountains, the Hungarians were never on Crimea).

Scenario 7 (Chir)
You want a hint? :-) Okay, fall back about 20 kilometres, the Russians will hastily follow you thinking that reality has come true in the game - that the Romanian army simply dissolves upon the appearance of th Soviets without giving a real fight (General Lascar's and General Dumitrescu's divisions are excepted here of course). Then turn back and bash them to bits. Their units will be a less densely packed mass now. If you've saved a bit of prestige you can buy some TACAMs. They can tear the T-34s and KV-1s to pieces. If you've had an AT gun in previous scenario (I had one from Kishinev onwards) you'll be able to upgrade it. That unit will be worth its weight in gold.

Scenario 8 (Astrakhan, Astrakhan map)
Finish the war! I was lucky and got a Panzer IV H prototype, but it never got to fire a shot and ended the game with 0 experience. That should tell you that this scenario is not exactly very hard!

Scenario 9 (Bucarest, Berlin map)
I think the Berlin map is one of the most useful ones so far (its also one of the most inaccurate ones). Whenever you need a big city in spring, summer or autumn, take Berlin! The Soviets are coming from the north, you have at most a few R-2s and TACAMs to defend it with. Of course there are lots of non-armoured forces too. Your planes will be no match for the Soviet Air Force. You can just barely hope to shoot a few of their bombers down. Otherwise your air force should have its hands full supporting your ground troops. The enemy has masses of everything, but the infantry you can handle. In city fighting their advantage is not so great. But the tanks are terrible because you have almost nothing that can match them. Experienced infantry is your only hope.
This battle looks like its impossible at first, but remember the AI is stupid. If there is one principle the AI never follows then it is to strike with your fist. He will attempt to surround you and out-flank you, but in doing so he will make two fatal errors:
1) expose a bit of the front line and leave a gap, through which you can dash with recon and tanks and cause havoc in his rear areas
2) diffuse his number of tanks so that you can take them singly.
However, for the first three or four turns, the situation does look pretty hopeless. I suggest an entirely defensive stance here with only local counterattacks.

Have fun playing!!

Andreas
