                         Pacific General
                            Scenario:
                         Weser Exercise
                        Norway (enhanced)
                           Release 1.4

IMPORTANT:
To play this scenario at all, it is imperative that you are using the
enhanced equipment roster for Pacific General. The roster adds many
new units not available in the "official" releases from SSI, which this
scenario uses. The roster is fully compatible with the Pacific General
main game, scenarios and campaign, so there's no reason why not to use
it! The enhanced equipment roster can be found on the web at the
Pacific General Armory... the site's address is:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/sgt_stryker/pacgen.htm

INSTALLATION:
After unzipping this file, copy or move the "norway.scn" file into
the "save" directory of your Pacific General folder. To play, choose
the "Start a Scenario" option on the main screen... next choose the
"Load Homemade Scenario" button from the bottom of the screen, then
select the "norway.scn" file and you are ready to play!

THE SITUATION:
It is April 9th, 1940... six months after His conquest of Poland, Adolf
Hitler is again ready to wage war. His first move was the simultaneous
invasion of Denmark and Norway, an undertaking that he grandly called
the "boldest and most impudent in the history of warfare". Code named
Weser Exercise, for the river where part of the invasion force
embarked, the operation called for 100,000 troops, 71 ships, and 28
submarines... almost every vessel the Germans could muster.

Norway is far more formidable and a challenge to the Germans than
Poland was. Anticipating problems in Norway, the British themselves
were already on the way when the Germans struck, ergo the British found
themselves aiding the Norwegians and thwarting the Germans from the
onset of the invasion.

The Germans are clearly outclassed by the superior British Royal Navy
on the high seas, but the British will find themselves hard pressed by
an extremely powerful and battle-tested Luftwaffe.

The Battle for Narvik was a confusing one as both the British and the
Germans landed nearly at the same time with the Norwegians more as
witnesses than combatants.

GAMEPLAY:
This is not a direct port of the original PanzGeneral Norway Scenario.
Though it is based on that scenario, and many things are similar
to the original, there have been a number of changes, additions and
enhancements to make this scenario differant and refreshing; many tied
into the fact that the new Pacific General game engine is being used.

With the PacGen engine being used, several new features are now used in
the scenario... the addition of night turns (every fourth turn... the
sequence is 3 days, 1 night), and expanded/enhanced naval rules will
be noticed right-off, so plan accordingly.

New objectives must be taken, with the city of Bergen in the west, and
in the north, the distant but important port of Narvik just to
name a few.

The scenario is NOT optimally balanced for a two player game. The
Norwegian/British side are at a bit of an advantage, so for single
player games, players with any sort of experience should play as the
Germans for a challenge. For players inexperienced or who routinely
have a tough time winning, try playing the Norwegian/British side.

So settle down and get to business... Release 1.4 includes a GREATLY
enhanced map of Norway, thanks to the PacMap editor, and corrects some
bridge and road problems... I'd appreciate any comments or concerns you
have with the scenario, so I can improve on it if it is too unbalanced
or some other problem is noted. Make sure you're using the latest
equipment file!
