Pacific General Scenario EBH 4
The Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. 13th-15th Nov 1942.

You need to use Steve Strayers equipment files for this scenario
which are available from "The Wargamer" site in the PacGen section.

The 3 day naval battle of Guadacanal was one of the most furious of
naval engagements. Fought in shoal waters, the early stages at point
blank range, it resulted in the now still waters becoming known as
Ironbottom sound. It is based on battle accounts, OBs and unit
deployment taken from WAR AT SEA by JOHN HAMILTON pp 162-166.

The US have the stronger force mainly due to the superiority of
their battleships, the South Dakota and Washington, over the Japanese counterparts
Hiei and Kirishima. However the Japanese have the initial positional
advantage and a larger number of destroyers to close down the US long
range advantage and possibly win the war of attrition.

The actual battle started on the 13th with a head on confrontation
in Ironbottom Sound between Battleships Hiei and Kirishima, five US
cruisers and a large number of destroyers on both sides. On the 14th
US bombers took out the transports bringing in the reinforcements
and on the 15th US battleships Washington and South Dakota faced
5 Japanese cruisers. Whilst the scenario does include most of the
ships which actually took part in the battle it will not develop
in the same way as the "real thing" because there is effective method
in PacGen to delay the arrival of forces.

Although primarily a Sea battle the Victory conditions are
influenced by what happens on the island. Do the Americans stop the
landing or do they give priority to finding and destroying the
Japanese battleships?

The map for this scenario was created from scratch using the
PacMap graphical map editor V 4.4, designed by Fred Chandla, which
creates fully compatible maps for PacGen. A review of this editor
can be found in the PacGen section of "The Wargamer" Web site.

  Hope you enjoy it!
