I. Introdution

My new axis campaign is based on the idea of a possible japanese offensive in the Indian Ocean with
the aim of a) cutting off the british supply lines to India and b) conquering the whole Indian Ocean
region. The final climax of this campaign could be the occupation of british South Africa.

II. Scenario Description

The "Indian Ocean" campaign consists of 4 scenarios:

a. Dutch East India (Jan.1942)
The japanese offensive against a multi-national force defending the scattered islands with the
objective of conquering the dutch oilfields in this area.

b. Diego Garcia Atoll (Mar.1942)
The japanese invasion of the main atoll of the Chagos Island in the heart of the Indian Ocean.
The axis needed this island badly as a springboard for further expansion in this area.

c. Operation Ironclad (May 1942)
After the approval of Vichy France to japanese bases on Madagascar, the vanguards of this forces
and Vichy troops face the british operation "Ironclad". The brits want to take possession
of the island before the japanese units can strengthen their positions.

d. South Africa (Aug.1942)
The crowning conclusion of the advance in the Indian Ocean would be the conquest of South Africa.
After a successful attack the japs would have had many options for their further expansion plans...

III. Progress of the Campaign

You can play the "Indian Ocean" campaign only on the axis side. The above-mentioned scenarios are linked
in a direct chain. In order to be successful, you have to finish each scenario with a decisive or marginal
victory. If you loose a scenario, you loose the campaign and the game is over !

IV. Installation & Backup

After a successful download you will have a *.zip archive which you have to decompress with e.g.'WinZip'
Now you will have 2 folders (data & scen) and this readme.txt file.
The single files of each of both folders must be copied to the Pacific General sudirectory of the
same name (e.g. all files of the "data" folder in the decompressed *.zip archive must be copied to the
c:\Pacific General\data subdirectory).
This readme.txt file is just for your information and not required in order to play the campaign.
I would recommend it strongly to backup the complete "data" and "scen" subdirectories of your Pacific
General installation, BEFORE you overwrite them with this new campaign.
Create two new folders (e.g. "oldscen" and "olddata") and copy the original files into these new folders.
Now install the "Indian Ocean" campaign.
If you want to play the original SSI axis campaign for PacGen in the future, replace the content of the
"data" and the "scen" folder with the files of the backup directories (e.g."oldscen" and "olddata").

V. Play the Campaign

Start Pacific General, choose "Start Campaign", select the Axis campaign and you are ready to go. Please note that
only the written scenario descriptions were updated. The spoken briefing is the old (original) version.
After the end of the second scenario "Diego Garcia" you have to make a decision how the campaign should go
on. At this point you MUST choose "Operation Ironclad" in order to continue the "Indian Ocean" campaign.
The campaign ends with a message beginning with the words: "Congratulations to your outstanding victory!"
Now the "Indian Ocean" campaign is over and you have won when you read this words !
It's true, that after this message the (original SSI) campaign will go on, but it doesn't make any sense
to keep on playing.
Thus, you should "imagine" the successful end and stop playing!

VI. Problems

1. Note that any naval units (wether core or auxilliary) can ONLY be bought in a scenario 'Deployment Phase',
that means at the beginning of a scenario. Thus, the first naval units can be purchased at the beginning
of the "Diego Garcia" scenario. No naval units can be purchased DURING a scenario !

2. After the (successful) end of a scenario you encounter the so called 'Campaign Intermediate Screens'. They
   consist of
   a) the "Victory Degree" screen
   b) two dialog boxes (Save Game & Review Battlefield)
   c) the "Words of Thanks" screen
   d) the "Scenario Briefing" screen
   e) a little video
   f) the "Scenario Deployment" screen

Normally you can switch to the next screen by a left-click or hitting any key (however, the two dialog boxes
are an exeception, while you have to make you decision by a left-click or with specified keys).
Sometimes I face the following problem during my playtesting:
When I switch to the next screen by a left-click (especially between the video (e) and the 'Scenario Deployemnt'
screen (f)) the game MAY crash.
A simple "bug-fix" is to hit ANY key (no mouse click) in order to shift to the next screen.
As I said, this problems MAY occur, I havn't found out any reason or regularity !

I hope you will enjoy the campaign. Comments are welcome !
